New York, NY – [May 11, 2026] – The Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME), an initiative of the United Nations Global Compact, is pleased to announce a new collaboration with the Project Management Institute (PMI), a leading authority in project management. This strategic collaboration aims to strengthen capacity building to advance responsible management education.
“At a time when sustainability is increasingly embedded in business education, the challenge is no longer awareness, rather it is execution,” said Dr. David Steingard, Head of PRME. “Our collaboration with PMI brings a critical dimension to responsible management education by helping students move from understanding global challenges to delivering real-world solutions.”
As part of the collaboration, PMI will play an active role in the PRME Students Innovation Studio, a flagship initiative designed to empower students to develop scalable solutions aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. PMI professionals will serve as mentors to selected student teams, offering practical guidance on project structuring, stakeholder alignment, and implementation strategies.
“Sustainability goals are only as effective as our ability to deliver them. Through our collaboration with PRME, PMI is helping to equip students and educators with the practical skills needed to translate sustainability ambitions into measurable outcomes. This collaboration is about closing the gap between intention and execution in business education,” shared Lucila Dotto, Global Head, Sustainability & Enablement, PMI.
PMI representatives will also participate as jury members during the semi-finals and finals, contributing their expertise to evaluate student solutions and support high-impact outcomes. Their involvement ensures that student ideas are not only innovative, but also actionable and grounded in real-world delivery frameworks.
PMI will further contribute to the 2026 PRME Global Forum through a featured showcase session titled “Principles to Practice: Equipping Students to Deliver Sustainable Impact.” This interactive session will address a critical gap in business education: the challenge of translating sustainability knowledge into tangible results.
Drawing on practical examples and applied methodologies, the session will explore how institutions can move beyond teaching sustainability as a concept and instead equip students with the capabilities to lead and execute meaningful change. Participants will engage in discussions on enabling execution, integrating sustainable project management into curricula, and strengthening the link between education and impact.
By combining PRME’s global network of higher education institutions advancing responsible management education with PMI’s expertise in project execution, this collaboration reflects a shared commitment to preparing the next generation of leaders to navigate complexity and drive sustainable transformation.
