From a Mindset of Scarcity to Abundance: Learning from Nature to Enable Regenerative Sustainability

The discussion will focus on the fact that humanity can reverse human-made climate change and planetary collapse by shifting from a sustainability paradigm of “doing less harm” to a regenerative paradigm that actively restores the conditions for life, grounded in a renewed partnership with Nature. Dr. Müller frames the current crisis through planetary boundaries, emphasizing biodiversity loss, soil degradation, and ecosystem collapse as more urgent than CO₂ alone. There is a need to shift away from the reductionist western development models of extraction in favor of holistic, nature-informed perspectives.

Regeneration is a systems and relational-based, bioregional approach integrating ecological restoration, culture, spirituality, economy, governance, and education, with regenerative food production highlighted as rapid, scalable solutions for carbon sequestration, biodiversity recovery, and human well-being. Drawing on practical evidence from Costa Rica Regenerativa and the University for International Cooperation, he demonstrates that regeneration is economically viable and socially transformative, while identifying funding and education as key bottlenecks. Dr. Müller proposes new learning networks and governance models to rapidly train regenerative practitioners worldwide, asserting that by learning from Nature’s intelligence, humanity can move from scarcity and competition toward abundance, resilience, and hope for all life.
