PRME Launches the Impactful-Five (i5) Playbook: Transforming Business Education through Creative Pedagogies

Introduction

The Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) initiative has unveiled its highly anticipated Impactful Five (i5) Playbook, a thoughtful pedagogical resource designed to support creative thinking in an educator’s own classroom, praxis, and reflection. Developed through support from The LEGO Foundation and in collaboration with The Harvard Graduate School of Education’s Project Zero (PZ), the i5 Playbook seeks to incorporate impactful, creative, and playful pedagogies into the learning process. This transformative tool aims to develop responsible business leaders who possess the necessary skills, mindset, and knowledge to address the complex challenges of the 21st century.

Empowering Educators and Institutions

The PRME i5 Playbook offers a wealth of practical strategies, activities, and insights to empower educators in enhancing their teaching methodologies and fostering dynamic learning environments. With a focus on meaning, joy, active engagement, social interaction, and iteration, the Playbook provides a comprehensive framework for developing responsible leaders. This text intends to guide the reader through an experience that introduce the content with examples, while also providing space for personal engagement and reflection through a series of prompts and pauses. A brief outline is shared below for your reference.

Transforming Business Education

The i5 Playbook brings together five core methods for developing responsible business leaders:

  1. Make Learning Meaningful: This method emphasizes the importance of connecting learning to real-world challenges and societal impact. By contextualizing knowledge and skills, educators can inspire students to understand the broader implications of their future business decisions.
  2. Foster Joy and Well-being: Recognizing the power of positive emotions, this method encourages educators to create an environment that fosters joy, well-being, and intrinsic motivation. By incorporating elements of play, curiosity, and creativity, students can develop a deep passion for learning.
  3. Develop Supportive Social Interaction: Collaboration and social interaction play a crucial role in responsible leadership. This method focuses on creating inclusive and supportive learning communities that promote teamwork, empathy, and mutual respect.
  4. Facilitate Active Engagement: Active engagement encourages students to take ownership of their learning process. By incorporating experiential and participatory learning approaches, educators can empower students to think critically, solve problems, and engage with course content.
  5. Design for Iteration: The iterative process of reflection, feedback, and adaptation is essential for continuous improvement. This method encourages educators to design learning experiences that allow for experimentation, reflection, and the refinement of skills and knowledge.

By adopting the i5 Playbook, the PRME community and beyond have the opportunity to shape the narrative of responsible management education, integrate sustainability into curricula, foster responsible leadership, engage in research and knowledge sharing, encourage experiential learning, collaborate with stakeholders, and advocate for positive change in business education and society as a whole. Most importantly, we hope educators use the Playbook as a tool for considering how to inspire sustainable and responsible messages into their curriculum to advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and inspire future business leaders towards the future we want.

The launch of the PRME i5 Playbook marks a significant milestone in the transformation of business education and the i5 Project. As the PRME community embraces the i5 Pedagogy, the potential for positive change in business education is immense. By integrating these innovative strategies and methods into teaching practices, educators can inspire students to become global citizens and change agents, equipped with the skills needed to address the pressing issues of our time.
