Educators from India, Spain, Kenya, France, Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States were recognized in Cairo, Egypt, as Ivey Publishing and the Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME), an initiative of the United Nations Global Compact, announced the winners of the second annual Sustainability Case Writing Awards during the 2026 PRME Global Forum.
The Sustainability Case Writing Awards celebrate innovative teaching cases that help prepare future business leaders to navigate today's most pressing environmental, social, and governance challenges through discussion-based learning. Now in its second year, the competition continues to attract case writers from around the world, reflecting the growing international commitment to advancing sustainability in business education through the case method.
During the PRME Global Forum, hosted outside the United States for the first time at the Onsi Sawiris School of Business at the American University in Cairo, the award recipients participated in the session Turning Sustainability into Teaching Moments: 2026 Case Writing Award Winners, where they introduced their cases and led interactive roundtable discussions with other educators from around the world.
Participants explored how the cases were developed, discussed classroom applications, and exchanged ideas on teaching sustainability through real-world business dilemmas.
"The Sustainability Case Writing Awards reflect our shared commitment with PRME to preparing future business leaders for an increasingly complex world," said Candis McInnes, Executive Director of Ivey Publishing, during the session. "The case method helps students develop the critical thinking, ethical judgment, and leadership skills needed to address sustainability challenges, skills that have become even more valuable as artificial intelligence reshapes business and education. We're proud to recognize the educators whose innovative teaching cases are preparing the next generation of responsible leaders."
On behalf of PRME, Dr. Meredith Storey, Senior Manager, Programmes & Engagement at PRME, United Nations Global Compact, said the partnership reflects a shared commitment to advancing responsible management education through high-quality, practice-oriented teaching resources.
"This partnership exemplifies the value of connecting world-class pedagogical materials with a global network of educators committed to preparing future leaders to navigate complexity, sustainability challenges, and societal expectations. Ivey's longstanding reputation for developing exceptional cases and teaching resources provides invaluable support to educators seeking to bring real-world challenges into the classroom," she said. "We look forward to expanding opportunities for educators worldwide to share, develop, and showcase innovative approaches to responsible management education."
Following the case presentations, participants joined interactive roundtable discussions with the winning authors, exploring the real-world sustainability challenges behind each case, their classroom applications, and the teaching approaches used to engage students in complex decision-making.
"It's inspiring to see educators from so many countries contributing to a growing collection of sustainability cases that reflect diverse industries, perspectives, and leadership challenges," said Violetta Gallagher, Director, Product & Publishing at Ivey Publishing, who facilitated the roundtable discussions. "By sharing these teaching materials with the global education community, we're helping expand conversations about responsible management and sustainability in business classrooms around the world."
This year's winners reflect the diversity and global reach of sustainability education, with cases examining complex leadership decisions across industries, regions, and organizational contexts. Together, they demonstrate how discussion-based learning can help students explore competing priorities, evaluate trade-offs, and develop the judgment required to lead responsibly in an increasingly interconnected world.
