Achievements Curriculum Integration in the Field of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability
The University of Rhode Island offers opportunities to focus on social responsibility, ethical decision making, and sustainability in the curriculum and through co-curricular offerings. The university offers an interdisciplinary major in Green Business and a minor in Work, Labor, and Social Justice. New course offerings have been developed in the College of Business related to social entrepreneurship; textiles, fashion and sustainability; and tackling grand social and ecological challenges. At the university level, Grand Challenge courses encourage students to engage with “Wicked Problems” like the impact of global change on coastal New England, health and wealth, sustainable development and trade, and education and social justice. These courses supplement existing courses on business and society, global supply chain management, and the legal and ethical environment of business, as well as examples that are integrated across the curriculum and co-curricular programming.
Achievements Research Development in the Field of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability
The College of Business has supported faculty research in corporate and social responsibility, resulting in over two dozen peer reviewed journal publications related to sustainability, ethical decision making or corporate responsibility in the past five years. The university also supports travel to conferences that focus on corporate social responsibility issues.
