IESC PRME SIP 10 2017-2019 - View Report

Period Covered: Jul 2017 to Mar 2019

Achievements Curriculum Integration in the Field of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability

First Note: The Center for Study of Corporate Sustainability belonging to the Fundación de Estudios e Investigaciones Superiores (Foundation of Higher Education and Research) was legally organized on 11/25/02 (formerly our Center reported to another institution).

We work with the World Resources Institute in its LA-BELL (Latin America - Business, Environment, Leadership and Learning) Program, and we performed the role of General Secretariat (2002-2004). The purpose of this program was to introduce the socio-environmental variable at Business School curricula. A network of over 30 graduate academics was created in South America to develop these themes.

We conducted the first Base of the Pyramid Learning Lab in South America. Our BoP Lab consists of a set of companies, NGOs, members of both the government and academics that, taking into account the huge existing inequality, work jointly to analyze the best way in which the private sector can eradicate poverty as a proactive partner, betting on the potential of local players to cooperate in fostering and jointly promoting local development.

We cooperated with other academic institutions to include themes such as sustainability and base of the pyramid in their curricula, or in special events such as seminars or conferences.

We published two books. The first one “Relación entre la Respuesta Ambiental Corporativa y el Crecimiento Económico de las Empresas” [“Relationship between Corporate Environmental Response and Business Economic Growth] preface written by David Rainey (Hartford Rensselaer Campus, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, USA) and “Textos en Sustentabilidad Empresaria – Integrando las Consideraciones Sociales, Ambientales y Económicas con el Corto y Largo Plazo” [“Articles on Corporate Sustainability – Integrating Social, Environmental and Economic Considerations in the Short and Long Term”] preface written by David Wheeler from the Schulich School of Management, York University, Canada. In the second half of 2008 we will publish a book on “‘Inclusive’ corporate strategies at the base of the pyramid,” the preface of which is being written by Stuart L. Hart from the Johnson School of Management, Cornell University, USA.

Moreover, we would like to promote these themes in academic institutions inland, many of which have very poor curricula in these topics.

Achievements Research Development in the Field of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability

Our institution has become a national (and also a regional) benchmark in “inclusive business” themes. In addition, our Lab belongs to the Lab network coordinated by Stuart L. Hart (Cornell University, USA) ( which at a Directors Meeting in Tilburg (Holland) early this June made the decision to promote joint research work among Labs and exchange of knowledge.
