PRME Chapter Brazil hosts successful Chapter meeting and CR3+ Conference

The PRME Chapter Brazil hosted their 4th Regional meeting on 10-12 November in collaboration with the CR3+ Conference: Governance and Sustainability. The meeting began with a retrospective look at 2015, praising the achievements and the challenges which the Chapter has faced.

Best practices were shared by FEA/RP-USP and ESPM. The Chapter reviewed SDG Compass material, PRME refugee’s engagement opportunity, and elections to the PRME Chapter Brazil Board. These elections will take place at the first meeting of 2016. FIA was also present at the meeting, and shared news of their recent student achievement in winning the Sustainable Games.

Additionally the CR3+ 2015 events reflected on the Melbourne 2014 CR3+, highlighting that 2015 has brought to academic discussions the integration, the market and the public sector. With an average of 100 participants, 36 papers presented in 12 sub panels, the event featured with an intense program and a great network.

On 11 November, the opening ceremony was held by the Ambassador John Almino - Brazilian Agency for Cooperation Director of the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Mayor of Curitiba, Gustavo Fruet, and Norman Arruda. After, began the discussions of the International Cooperation Panel, with the presence of representatives of the Curitiba City Hall, Ministry of Foreign Affairs from Brazil, Ministry of Cities from Brazil and the French Embassy Sustainable Development Councilor.

The day featured paper presentations and sustainability keynotes.  Among the speakers were:

  • Nikodemus Solitander - Social Responsibility professor at Hanken School of Economics, Finland;
  • Martin Fougere - Business professor at Hanken School of Economics, Finland;
  • Camilla Quental - Management and corporate social responsibility Teacher and Researcher at Audencia School of Management, France;
  • Savio Bittencourt - FGV Sustainability Lab Coordinator and Prosecutor of the Public Ministry RJ;
  • Romulo Sampaio - Researcher at the Center for Law and Environment at FGV Law School.

The 12 November events opened with the CEO's panel with the presence of companies: Renault, Valmet, Itaipu and Sanepar. In the afternoon, followed by paper presentations and in the evening and corporate governance keynotes featuring:

  • Suzanne Young - Director of the Department of Management and Marketing at La Trobe Business School, Australia;
  • Carlos Alberto Ercolin - Teacher's ISAE/FGV and World Bank consultant in the area of ​​Corporate Governance;
  • Carlos Eduardo Lessa Brandão - Director Ethical Fund and a member of the Standards Advisory Council of B Lab (USA). Was adviser of ISE - BM&F Bovespa.

The events brought together several active Signatories and stakeholders throughout our Brazilian network. Additionally, collaborators from Hanken School of Economics, Finland have agreed to host the next CR3+ event in Spring 2017.
