2016 3rd PRME Chapter Meeting Iberian (Spain and Portugal)

Description

(Porto, 1 February 2016) – The 3rd PRME Chapter Iberian meeting built on the achievements and goals set at the 1st PRME Chapter Meeting Iberian and 2nd PRME Chapter Meeting Iberian, which were hosted by ESADE and Comillas Pontifical University, respectively, to further embed sustainability and corporate responsibility into management-related education. The aim of the 3rd PRME Chapter Meeting Iberian was to introduce and reflect on the recently launched Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The meeting promoted open reflection on how the Iberian region could contribute to the UN Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development with support from speakers and participants from all over the business and academic worlds.

The meeting started with a review of the outcomes of the PRME Global Forum 2015 and an introduction about the Sustainable Development Goals by Florencia Librizzi, PRME Secretariat, UN Global Compact. Following, companies shared good practices and engaged in an open discussion with the audience around the relevance of the SDGs in the region.

Thereafter, the PRME Chapter Iberian working meeting served as an opportunity to discuss what business schools could do to address the SDGs, and help corporations comply with the SDGs. The PRME Chapter Iberian also reported on the development of the projects identified in previous work meetings, such as the Indicator Matrix to measure progress done by PRME signatories (by Ignacio Maroto, Instituto Superior de Educación, Administración y Desarrollo en Madrid), Project with Businesses and the SDGs (by Giorgia Miotto, EADA Business School), and the presentation of the Inspirational Guide for the Chapter (by Anna Bajo, University Pontifical Comillas) and agreed to continue to work on:

  • Conducting a pilot phase to globally test the Indicators Matrix developed by the PRME Chapter in order to measure progress made in implementing the Six Principles in contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals. This group is led by Javier Benayas of the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid with the support of other colleagues from DEUSTO Business School, Instituto Superior de Educación, Administración y Desarrollo en Madrid, UPF Barcelona School of Management, Universitat Pompeu Fabra, IESE Business School, ESADE and Universidade do Minho.
  • Continuing to involve and collaborate with companies to promote the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The core group led by Giorgia Miotto of EADA Business School will continue to drive this project in close collaboration with the Global Compact Local Networks. Continuing to collect good practices of member institutions in an inspirational guide in order to systematically compare progress towards the development of the Six Principles. Anna Bajo of the University Pontifical Comillas will continue to lead the project.
  • Expanding the online platform for the PRME Chapter Iberian, as developed by Joao Dias da Silva, Porto Business School. The challenge now is to increase usage by other institutions in the PRME Chapter and to share content on the database for future joint research.
  • Continue to host the annual PRME Chapter Iberian Regional Meeting. The next edition will take place in 2017 at UPF Barcelona School of Management, Universitat Pompeu Fabra.

Finally, attendees agreed to discuss the formal establishment of the PRME Chapter Iberian at the upcoming meeting and present on their progress on the above projects.
