2016 College of Business and Economics Sustainability Report/Boise State University - View Report

Period Covered: Jan 2016 to Dec 2016

In publishing our third sustainability report for the College of Business and Economics (COBE hereafter) at Boise State University, we are once again attempting to transparently report on the economic, social and environmental impacts that we have on our key stakeholders, and to role model this leading corporate and organizational practice to inspire our business and academic peers to follow suit.

Achievements Curriculum Integration in the Field of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability

Through consistent sustainability reporting efforts, the College of Business and Economics has documented the classes, research and service contributions within the College that integrate responsible business concepts including business ethics, corporate social responsibility, environmental sustainability and diversity. Further, student classrooms were connected with the community through completing 5,560 hours of service learning. The College also offers undergraduate minors in both sustainability and nonprofit management. In 2017, the College launched its Inclusive Excellence Strategy to improve diversity and inclusion efforts in the college, on the Boise State University campus, and in our community. In 2017, a group of 14 graduate and undergraduate students documented these and other responsible business efforts and impacts by publishing the College’s third sustainability report in August 2017.

Achievements Research Development in the Field of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability

As of 2016, 17 faculty members engaged in service in the college or in the community in areas of responsible business. Also, the College has created a faculty council to audit and advise the quality and quantity of responsible business content integrated into course curriculum. Additionally, the College is now a primary supporter of the Blue Sky Institute focused on harnessing the skills and resources of Boise State University to create cross-disciplinary and cross-sector partnerships to positively impact the community’s most entrenched social problems at a systems level. Going forward, the College aims to continue improving the integration of responsible business in curriculum, increasing the amount of recycled paper purchasing, improving waste management, and increasing eco-friendly purchasing.
