The Marketing Institute of Singapore Training Centre, the training arm of the Marketing institute of Singapore (MIS) established in 1973, is fully supportive of the Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME). The Vision and Mission of the School is “Creating marketers through quality education”. A responsible marketer is one who is fully aware of their actions and of the implications of decisions taken, and is engaged with and within the communities that they exist.
Achievements Curriculum Integration in the Field of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability
To begin with, the Mission of MISTC is to “Create Marketers Through Quality and Responsible Management Education”. MISTC has a curriculum model which is underpinned by the School’s value system. These includes Innovation (Encouraging innovation and learning amongst the students and faculty); Enterprise (Committing to an environment that allows people to seize opportunities and push boundaries to create sustainability), as well as Trust, Passion, Service Quality and Teamwork. The School leadership is aligned with these values and mission, and aspires towards inculcating student leaders who are sustainability-centric.
MISTC is a member of the UN Global Compact (www.unglobalcompact.org) and the Singapore Tripartite Alliance for Fair Employment Practices.
MISTC had organised focus group involving students, faculty, researchers and industry to discuss, review, design and develop new programmes that are consistent with the philosophy of PRME. Programme developers has and will continue to incorporate the notion of corporate responsibility and sustainability throughout the programme modules, which are then approved by MISTC Academic Board. The developers adopt pedagogic practices – Teaching & Learning Strategies, Learning Content, Learning Environment and Assessment Modes – in ensuring the integration of the concepts. New units such as Integrated Learning and Capstone allows the students an opportunity to considers and evaluate issues of corporate responsibility and sustainability. Students may also select their dissertation on corporate social responsibility and sustainability.
In addition, MISTC has partnered VWOs to offer a range of volunteering and internship opportunities to our cohort.
Achievements Research Development in the Field of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability
MISTC intends to organise workshops and seminars on CSR in marketing, cause marketing and sustainability marketing. In due course, MISTC will run open innovation and “crowdsourcing” to encourage new approaches towards CSR and sustainability in the management of a business school. We will also engage industry practitioners and entrepreneurs to consider CSR and sustainability when conducting marketing and sales campaigns. Academic research, publication and knowledge building shall be an area of further development and progress at MISTC in the future.
