This Sharing Information on Progress (SIP) report for St. John's University - the Peter J. Tobin College of Business - provides updates for the years 2012-2014 on the institution's various initiatives related to responsible management education including its flagship academic and service-learning programs: GLOBE, GDCs, EIRP, VITA, COAP and buildOn among others. Faculty research is highlighted to reflect the broad commitment to UN PRME across the business disciplines in the college.

Peter J. Tobin College of Business - SIP Report - December 2012 - View Report

This report outlines the progress that the Peter J. Tobin College of Business at St. John's University has made towards fulfilling the United Nation's Principles of Responsible Management Education (UN PRME) during the period 2010-2012.

Achievements Curriculum Integration in the Field of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability

St John’s University and TCB are involved in academic research and knowledge development which relates specifically to the PRME principles 4 and 6 and includes the following initiatives and programs:

o St. John’s University is one of three Vincentian universities that co-hosts the Annual International Conference Promoting Business Ethics. At least one third of the Peter J. Tobin College of Business (TCB) faculty participate and present in this event on topics related to Business Ethics.

o Faculty members in TCB report on research related to business ethics and corporate responsibility with over 25% full time faculty members engaged in research in these or related areas, according to self-reports.

o The Vincentian Center for Church and Society appoints Vincentian Fellows from across the university on the basis of their research and knowledge production in areas of ethics and social justice. Seven of the thirty fellows are TCB faculty. The Vincentian Center hosts an annual Poverty Conference where Vincentian Fellows present and other TCB faculty contribute as attendees and workshop participants and are encouraged to invite their students.

o The Vincentian Institute for Social Action (VISA) at St John’s University encourages collaboration throughout the university community in activities designed to advance the Vincentian commitment to social justice and systemic change. A unit within the institute is that of the Ozanam Scholars who perform required course work, research (under the guidance of a faculty member) and community service while exploring local, national, and international justice concerns and developing the insight and capability to practically address the issues of social justice. Sixteen of the eighty-eight Ozanam Scholars are students from TCB.

o In the future, TCB is looking to implement a Business Ethics Scholar Certificate Program where designated scholars would be required to perform additional honors-level coursework and specific research related to corporate social responsibility, business ethics and sustainability and the scholar would receive a certificate in addition to the conferred degree.
