Sharing Information on Progress-Principles For Responsible Management - View Report

Period Covered: Jan 2013 to Jan 2014

Our 2014 Report shares the progress we are making in building an MBA program committed to addressing issues of sustainability and equity. We strive to teach students that socially and fiscally responsible management are mutually reinforcing.

Achievements Curriculum Integration in the Field of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability

The SOM mission incorporates our vision that our students will act as principled leaders in their organizations. We educate our students to act ethically, foster equitable and inclusive workplaces, align profitability and social responsibility, and take accountability for the impact of their organizations on the environment. These concepts and practices are integrated extensively in our curricula to the extent that 100% of our core courses and over 90% of our electives address topics related to socially responsible management. We were early adopters of the Giving Voice to Values ethics curriculum for both undergraduates and graduates, have strong student engagement through Net Impact and other associations and clubs, and engage in experiential learning in the areas of social entrepreneurship, corporate social responsibility and non profit management. Student learning outcomes in areas related to socially responsible management are formally assessed as part of our assurance of learning cycle.

Achievements Research Development in the Field of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability

Faculty are actively engaged in research on one or more of the dimensions of principled leadership and socially responsible management. A recent survey indicated that three quarters of the faculty were so engaged.
Targeted support is provided specifically for research related to socially responsible management.
The business community is engaged with the SOM's mission for promoting principled leadership through a widely diverse set of events, ranging from the Annual Women's Leadership Conference to small, student-led panels and speaker events.
The Business Advisory Council actively consults and advises the leadership of the SOM on socially responsible management practice and members act as ambassadors to their companies for further integration of these practices.
