Achievements Curriculum Integration in the Field of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability
One of the five core values of Viterbo University is stewardship, so efforts in the area of sustainability are in direct alignment with the university's mission, vision, and values. Viterbo University's Dahl School of Business has integrated ethics across the curriculum for a decade. This year, Viterbo University has created a environmental task force dedicated to analyze and create sustainable organizational practices for the institution. The Dahl School of Business has been offering an Environmental Economics course that investigates the economics of environment and the economics of exhaustable resources. Now, we are adding a new course to our required business core that will explore corporate social responsibility, ethics, and sustainability in business. In addition, a new 4+1 MBA program is being launched; the focus of this program is corporate social responsibility and sustainability. As part of the requirements for this MBA, students will take several undergraduate courses emphasizing CSR and sustainability. New graduate courses that are required for this program include courses title 1) Leading Corporate Citizens and 2) Metrics of Sustainability. In addition, concepts of CSR and sustainability will be integrated into courses in the existing part-time MBA program. In the summer of 2009, we hope to offer a "green business leadership" camp for high school students. We are pursuing a grant for funding.
The Director of the MBA program and the Coordinator of the MBA program are currently attending regional sustainability meetings. We are both also currently taking courses to become certified sustainability professionals.
Viterbo hosts an annual humanities symposium. This year, the theme of the symposium is "The Good Earth", and topics are focused on sustainability.
Achievements Research Development in the Field of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability
At this time, three Dahl School of Business employees are conducting research into student perceptions of CSR and sustainability. Their white paper has been accepted for presentation by the Academy of Management. MBA students are investigating possible research topics in the area of sustainability for their masters theses. Developing more research in this area is a hope for the future of our organization.
