Period Covered: Mar 2015 to Mar 2017

The University of Newcastle (UON) is pleased to present our first SIP report. This report demonstrates our achievements as a world-class University, Faculty and Business school. We strive to make a difference by addressing some of the great challenges we face regionally and globally. We have strong collaborative partnerships with our communities and industry, and we actively engage these partners in dialogue and debate about issues of global significance.

Achievements Curriculum Integration in the Field of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability

Corporate responsibility and sustainability are integrated into a number of courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate level including ACFI3007 Accounting Sustainability Ethos
and GSBS6484 Corporate Governance & Social Responsibility. These courses consider theories and policy initiatives in this area, both within Australia and globally and seek to encourage a holistic perspective.

Achievements Research Development in the Field of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability

Newcastle Business School is currently in the process of recruiting a Professor in the area of corporate governance and social responsibility, to provide leadership, build research and teaching capacity in this area and strengthen integration throughout the curriculum.
NBS has a number of Faculty actively researching in the field of corporate responsibility and sustainability and supervising PhD students in this area. Since 2002, Professor Jim Psaros and Dr Michael Seamer have formally assessed and rated the corporate governance structures of Australia’s largest 500 companies. This database has been widely reported in the financial press and has been used as the basis of several academic research papers.
