Achievements Curriculum Integration in the Field of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability
Yeditepe University was founded in 1996 by the Istanbul Education and Culture Foundation (ISTEK), under Law No. 4142. It is a foundation university framed by the Higher Education Law and has legal entity, and financial and administrative freedom. Yeditepe University carries out its academic mission through 12 faculties entailing 60 programs: Faculties of Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Health Science, Law, Engineering and Architecture, Education, Arts and Sciences, Economics and Administrative Sciences, Commerce, Communication, and Fine Arts. Yeditepe University is the first foundation university in Turkey which has been accredited by the Institutional Accreditation Program of the Association of European Universities (EUA).Yeditepe University offers its students the opportunity to obtain double degrees and double majors at world-renowned universities such as Texas Tech, Rochester Institute of Technology, the University of Illinois, Loyola, among others. In addition, Yeditepe University has over 300 foreign students and an equal number of students studying in the USA, Canada, Europe (Erasmus), Russia and the Far East.
Since 2007 Corporate Social Responsibility has been a compulsory course for undergraduate education in the faculty of economics and administrative sciences. The major aim of this course is developing awareness on the importance of self-regulation in business life whereby an organization is asked its own adherence to legal, ethical, or safety standards. Besides providing conceptual background on the CSR Concept, term-projects are also mandatory in order to enable our students for reflecting their knowledge to the practical implementations. The Project of one of our student (Ms. Tuğçe Biçer) awarded by Credit Bureau of Turkey in 2010.
By the cooperation of TR Small and Medium Enterprises Development Organization (KOSGEB), Applied Entrepreneurship Program was opened as an elective course in the Department of Management in 2013. One of the major goal of this course is helping to create social and environmental responsive businesses besides providing necessary skills and knowledge for our students to start-up new generation enterprises. The students who complete this course are also certified by KOSGEB. They also have an opportunity to use 30 000TL fund and/or 70 000TL Credit by optimum conditions.
Diversity Management Course was added into the program in 2014. In this course, students will learn importance of diversification at corporate level and so they will understand how they will manage diversity to the organization’s advantage. After discussing all kinds of discrimination in business places, managerial strategies for to manage diversity are also enlightened. In this course, gender diversity will be taken into consideration comprehensively in order to increase awareness about the utilization of UNWEPs as gender lenses at corporate level. Because, in most of the countries including Turkey, although gender is accepted as the key element for to achieve sustainable development, women still continue to face with discrimination.
Achievements Research Development in the Field of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability
Yeditepe University Management, Application and Research Center (YUVAM) was established in 2006 by the aim of providing supports to the academic researches that are realized in the framework of multidisciplinary approach and developing projects through collaborations with public, private and non-governmental organizations. The governance of YUVAM depends on both theoretical and practical knowledge. However, it is possible to say that YUVAM is the platform that connects society, industry and academia through the efforts to disseminate the results coming from researches and implementations on good governance concept at national, regional, international and global levels.
The University Alliances Program (UAP) opens up the world of SAP to more than 1,800 universities worldwide. Yeditepe University and SAP have signed an agreement to provide on-line training with SAP certification in part or addition to actual curriculums. Through SAP membership, universities gain access to an ever expanding range of exciting opportunities to engage with one of the world’s leading technology companies. It is the great opportunity to share good practices with the companies of the network in the field corporate responsibility and sustainability. Monitoring and managing administrative details of SAP Student Academy have been realized by Yeditepe University, Management Application and Research Center (YUVAM).
Yeditepe University Management, Application and Research Center (YUVAM) is staying on the preparations of YIRCoBS’14 Yeditepe International Research Conference on Business Strategies 2014 “Can Entrepreneurship Save the World?” The major goal of this Conference is bringing into sharp relief of social, political, economic, environmental and technological impacts of entrepreneurship. Obviously, in the world which is increasingly globalized and interconnected, utilizing all social, political, environmental and technological aspects besides economic factors, are vitally important for success.
Although, three dimensions of the sustainable development has always been processed together in all international processes, gender inequality is still controversial issue in labor markets either for employment or entrepreneurship. However, one of the section of this conference is allocated for women entrepreneurship which will be co-organized by BPW-Turkey. It is the affiliate of International Federation of Business and Professional Women which has general consultative status by the UN. We believe that collaborations with corporations, non-governmental organizations and inter-governmental agencies will make us stronger.
