CBS 2010 PRME Report on Progress - View Report

The 2010 CBS Report on Progress: UN PRME summarises what Copenhagen Business School has accomplished and plans to accomplish since committing to furthering the implementation of PRME’s objectives as a signatory in August 2008. The main part of the report is divided into six sections, based on themes from the six different PRME principles. Each section contains a description of the chief strategy CBS is following to execute the principle, with a list of major accomplishments and future objectives.

Achievements Curriculum Integration in the Field of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability

Copenhagen Business School (CBS) has a long tradition for research and knowledge development within Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability (CSR). During the late eighties CBS was one of the first business schools to conduct research and development of new tools around ethical reporting. As a result of a growing research interest in the field during the nineties CBS established the CBS Center for Corporate Social Responsibility (cbsCSR) in 2002 in order to sustain the focus on the new conditions for company activities in society surrounding questions of social responsibility, ethics and values.

Over the years cbsCSR has grown from a framework of CBS faculty with a shared interest in the study of the role of business in society to become an established center with around a dozen of core researchers with different backgrounds but with a shared interest in the study of Corporate Social Responsibility as it unfolds in the practice of companies and society. As a result of the continued growing interest in the field and a CBS management decision to focus even further on CSR research cbsCSR moved to new office facilities in October 2007 in order to make room for the expanding activities.

cbsCSR research focuses on modern organizations (private, public, and volunteer) and their relations to the surrounding society by establishing several analytical levels: internal organizational matters (the employee in the organization) and the interface between the organization and the public (the organization in society). Selected major cbsCSR research projects include:
• Nordic Centre for Corporate Responsibility (www.nccr.org)
• RESPONSE – Understanding and Responding to Societal Demands on Corporate Responsibility (http://www.insead.edu/v1/ibis/response_project/)
• CSR Platform (http://www.eabis.org/csrplatform)
• CSR in SMEs (www.people-and-profit.socialfonden.net, www.csrinnovation.dk)

Furthermore, CBS has established itself as a reliable host of state of the art conferences, seminars and workshops on CSR. Selected major events include:

• 2nd Colloquium of the European Academy of Business in Society (EABIS), “Partnerships for Learning and Innovation on the Role of Business in Society” (19-20 September 2003, 300+ participants)
• The Social Responsibility of Small and Medium Sized Enterprises “Integration of CSR into SME Business Practice” (26 October 2006, 130 participants)
• Annual PhD seminar on CSR with international guests

In line with the overall CBS strategy cbsCSR strives during the next years to engage further in close collaboration with more private companies on specific and tailor made research projects and other research collaborations.
