2017 PRME SIP Report ACU - View Report

Period Covered: Jan 2013 to Jul 2017

This SIP report covers the period 2013 to 2017 and reports on developments in the Faculty of Law and Business Australian Catholic University. Based on the university focus of impact through empathy all business subjects now embed ethics, responsibility and sustainability through assessable learning objectives. The establishment of the research based Centre for Sustainable HRM and Wellbeing is also reported.

Achievements Curriculum Integration in the Field of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability

• The focus on corporate responsibility derives from the University’s Mission which focuses us on community engagement, a dialogue between faith and reason, the common good and the dignity of the human being.
• This attracts staff and students with an interest in social justice and engages us with an ongoing dialogue between the many interpretations of social justice.
• At the more concrete level our programs include:

o Subjects framed in, and with a purpose relating to, responsibility: e.g. Ethical Leadership, Strategic Management for Sustainability, Corporate Governance and Social Responsibility;
o At the undergraduate level, every student does a compulsory community engagement subject which involves working in the community; and
o In 2012 we will introduce core subjects that are common to all faculties within the university – these units focus on social inequality and vulnerability and will give the students a sense of their place and responsibility within this milieu.

Achievements Research Development in the Field of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability

• The Faculty has only been in existence for 18 months and so links with companies are still forming, but we already have a number of significant research partnerships – see the table below;
• We have built a concentration of staff whose research is focused on organisational sustainability and leadership, not for profits, ethics and governance;
• We have higher than average participation by students from low social economic status backgrounds and indigenous students;
• The Faculty of Business is also the location of editors of a number of Journals of global significance:
o The Editor in Chief of the Journal of Global Responsibility, which is endorsed by the Globally Responsible Leadership Initiative;
o The Editor in Chief of the Asia Pacific Journal of Business Administration; and
o The Editor (Pacific Rim) of Public Management Review (IS1 10=1.295)
