Citizens and Leaders for Responsible Futures - View Report

Period Covered: Jan 2015 to Mar 2017

This report shares information on the developments of responsible management education and research at Lincoln International Business School for 2015/16 and 2016/17. The report demonstrates development in all 6 areas of principle and in particular in research and the formal validation of undergraduate degrees.

Achievements Curriculum Integration in the Field of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability

Achievements:
From 2010-2012 the Business School has implemented a mission of creating greater responsibility, captured in two guiding principles; the first is Creating Responsible Futures, the second is Student as Responsible Producer. These principles are used as touchstones in framing the design and delivery of teaching and research. The 6 Principles of Responsible Management Education provide a framework for the implementation of these.
While maintaining the subject of CSR within the syllabus, these principles have allowed us to develop more structural approaches to the PRME objectives, which include:
• Volunteering as part of the assessed syllabus
• Integral consulting activities with specific objectives of creating responsible futures, addressing contemporary issues such as sustainability, healthy living and poverty alleviation
• A reflective practice perspective with explicit values of responsibility
• An explicit student code of practice of professional standards

Plans:
The main development over the next two years will be the broadening of the above activities to the majority of programmes in the Business School, currently these reach about 30 percent of students.

The core focus will be on making operational the principle of Student As Responsible Producer, which raises the expectations of student performance and personal responsibility such that they discover their abilities to make different and valuable futures for society and are capable of and motivated by this ideal.

Achievements Research Development in the Field of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability

Achievements:
A range of research programmes have been established with and for companies, which reflect strengths of the School research base, and include:
• Multi-perspective analysis of structural effects on CSR values
• Corporate Governance in Nigerian MNCs
• Agential perspectives on health and safety regimes
• Discourses of well-being in organisations
• Positive innovations in the healthcare sectors
• Changes in the notions of value
• Micro-finance structures in sub-Saharan Africa
• Societal challenges from a joint research perspective, learning both through and with organisations
• Improving consumer healthy living
• Active citizenship learning

These programmes have informed many events and activities with corporate clients, public policy, professional bodies and wider networks. Locally we have engaged with business and public stakeholder. We host regular meetings of specialist business forums at our Leadership and Management Centre, e.g. forums for sustainable food production, innovation and futures of the healthcare sector, the future of company directors, expeditionary logistics for NGOs and military supplies, retail marketing, rural economies and new futures for family businesses, for smaller social and owner-managed enterprises.
Plans:
• The continued development of research activity that reflects the mission of creating responsible futures
• The development of multi-disciplinary research on sustainability on a cross-university basis
• Further engagement with academic and corporate debate on the futures of capitalism
