Volunteer opportunity UN Global Compact Office

The UN Global Compact has a volunteer opportunity for an excellent writer and good communicator. It entails conducting interviews with business and civil society actors on the topic of how stakeholder panels can be helpful in building better relations with local communities, and writing up the results as a good practice note of 2-4 pages in length in succinct and business friendly language for a business audience. The good practice note should take account of lessons learned, what has worked and what has not worked as well. Relevant background documents include the meeting report of the Global Compact Human Rights Working Group, which took place in Boston on April 29, 2008 and the good practice forum proposal that was an input to that meeting. These documents can be downloaded at: http://www.unglobalcompact.org/docs/ issues_doc/human_rights/Human_Rights_Working_Group/ 29Apr08_3_Revised_Clearing_House_for_Good_Practice_proposal_final.pdf http://www.unglobalcompact.org/docs/ issues_doc/human_rights/Human_Rights_Working_Group/ 29Apr08_HRWG_Summary_Report_draft_9_May.doc The work is to be carried out under the supervision of the Global Compact Office, which will help in identifying people to interview and what questions to ask, as well as provide guidance on what the note should look like. Due to space constraints in the UN Global Compact Office, the work should mostly be conducted outside the office. However, the telephone interviews could be conducted from the Global Compact Office. The project could be called an externship if that would be of interest to the student. To express your interest in this opportunity, please contact lee21@un.org by 15 November 2008.
