PRME Chapter Nordic Hosts Successful Chapter Meeting - Strengthening Collaboration with Global Compact Network and Building on 1st Annual PRME Chapter Meeting Nordic
The 2nd PRME Chapter Meeting Nordic convened 1-2 Dec 2015 in Helsinki, Finland in conjunction with Global Compact Network (GCN) Nordic Countries annual meeting to explore further synergies, common interests, and possible opportunities for collaboration with the GCN Nordic Countries. Additionally, this meeting acted as a follow-up to the 1st Annual PRME Chapter Meeting Nordic, and thus had additional goals to follow up on the agenda set at the annual meeting, explore potential new projects, and determine the time and place of the next annual meeting in 2016. The PRME Chapter Meeting Nordic saw participants from 6 schools: Aalto University, School of Business (FIN); BI Norwegian Business School (NO); Hanken School of Economics (FIN); JAMK University of Applied Sciences (FIN); Jönköping International Business School (SWE); Stockholm School of Economics (SWE).
During the meeting, member schools presented important developments that had occurred in 2015 as well as looked ahead towards 2016. Hanken gave a brief update and presentation on the planned PRME Chapter Nordic Distributed Open Collaborative Course (DOCC). During the fall, Hanken recorded around 15 video clips, which were distributed to other schools so that they could familiarize themselves with the potential format. Before the close of 2015, Hanken will survey the PRME Chapter Nordic schools to map existing capabilities, resources, and needs so that the project can successfully move forward. Additionally, participants discussed a possible Call to Action to mobilize the academic community to take action in response to the refugee crisis. Hanken and Stockholm School of Economics (SSE) presented their commitments insofar, and encouraged other schools to join the pledge and share their actions. Furthermore, participating schools decided on the establishment of a common PRME Chapter Nordic PhD course. The first iteration of the course will be given in 2016-2017 (SSE: September 2016, BI Norwegian Business School: tentatively January 2017, Hanken: April 2017). PRME Chapter Nordic had one common session on 1 December together with GCN Nordic Countries. Under the heading “Business Meets Academics,” Atle Midttun (BI Norwegian Business School) and Lin Lerpold (Stockholm School of Economics) partook in a very interesting panel debate together with Kaisa Jungman (Metso Corporation) and Charlotte Bengt (Novo Nordisk) regarding, among other things, the future of CSR and the role of business education in relation to scandals such as the Volkswagen emissions case. The panel was moderated by Armi Temmes (Aalto) and Sara Krüger-Falk (Dansk Industri). The day was capped with a common dinner at UPM’s new Head Office, the Biofore House.
Various possible collaborative projects and ideas were discussed. The PRME Chapter Nordic renewed its commitment to continue work with GCN Nordic Countries to try to identify possible mutual interests for concrete projects. It was also decided that PRME Chapter Nordic would continue, when feasible, to arrange its meetings in conjunction with GCN Nordic Countries meetings. The next annual meeting for PRME Chapter Nordic will take place in September 2016 at SSE in Sweden. While it will not meet in conjunction with the next GCN Nordic Countries meeting in Greenland, GCN Nordic Countries members are invited to attend. PRME Chapter Nordic members are strongly encouraged to suggest possible concrete GCN Nordic Countries projects/collaboration ideas for 2016 to the PRME Chapter Nordic Secretariat.
