5th Responsible Management Education Conference hosted successfully in Cologne

16 November, 2018 | Cologne – The 5th Responsible Management Education (RME) Research Conference Leadership Development for Advancing the Implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals and the 8th International CSR Conference "Responsible Leadership in Times of Transformation", took place from 12-16 November at the Flora Botanic Garden in Cologne, Germany. The events brought together over 400 participants from academia, business, NGOs and government for the course of a week. The conferences addressed topics such as "Responsible Leadership", "Digitization and New Technologies", "Business Transformation", "Social Innovation & Entrepreneurship", "Corporate Governance" and "Responsible Finance" in panel discussions and interactive workshop sessions on 1500 sqm of exhibition space with six interaction rooms, eight action zones and 12 solution stations. Please see full agenda for both events here.

At the opening of the 5th Responsible Management Education Research Conference, Florencia Librizzi, Senior Manager PRME, welcomed participants and reflected: “The topic of this conference could not be any more appropriate at this time of history. In every corner of the world we see leadership struggles expressed in a diversity of manners. Every institution faces challenges posing important questions to all of us: Are we really forming our students to be leaders able to bring the change needed to advance the SDGs? Are we ourselves those responsible leaders? Are we teaching by example in our institutions? We are here today, because we believe that effective, inclusive and responsible leadership is crucial to advance the SDG agenda without leaving anyone behind; and furthermore, we are convinced that responsible management education is the vehicle that can prepare leaders to tackle the complex challenges of this century to create the sustainable, inclusive and just world that we want.”

At the opening of the 8th International CSR Conference, Prof Dr René Schmidpeter welcomed guests with a passionate message: "Sustainability is more than just a slogan - it is our demand on politics and society to shape our future in the best possible way in the context of global challenges. We look forward to working with you to promote the sustainability debate worldwide and to challenging our current economic system".

On 12 November, PRME Chapter DACH conducted its Steering Committee meeting to discuss their contribution to the SDGs as well as governance matters. Key outcomes of the Chapter meeting included the appointment of Prof Dr Elisabeth Fröhlich, President of the Cologne Business School as PRME Chapter DACH spokewoman, who wish to support the PRME Chapter DACH and work closer with the UN Global Compact and PRME initiatives going forward. The PRME Secretariat thanks Lutz Schlange for this leadership and work in driving the process of creation and establishment of the PRME Chapter DACH, as well as serving as Chapter speaker since 2014. The 2019 RME Research Conference will take place at Jönköping University, College of Business.

The PRME Secretariat thanks the PRME Chapter DACH, PRME Working Groups and the Center for Advanced Sustainable Management (CASM) at the Cologne Business School (CBS) for organizing and hosting this wonderful week in Cologne.
